Message	Despite what has been said, I believe the primary design constraint was packaging. It had to fit under the hood and also allow for spark plug access. Performance, IMHO, was secondary. This resulted in runners that are too long, and plenums that are too small. I think nice gains could be had with a better manifold design, but you would lose easy spark plug access.
